Charles Bridge - Prague

Prague City Breaks
Prague City Breaks
charles Bridge - Connecting two part of the Prague city. Now a days the bridge is home to guitar players, dozens of souvenir sellers and is actually an event in its own right.
For 400 years, Charles Bridge was the only connection between the old town (Stare Mesto) and he Lesser Quarter (Mala Strana). Charles IV had it builtin 1357 under the supervision of his favourite architect, Petr Parler. Now a days, the Charles Bridge is unimaginable without its characteristic feature - the statues - but there are Baroque and were only added between 1657 and 1714. One of the first and most known is the figure of St. john of Nepomuk. Touching the scene on the relief on the statue base is supposed to bring luck - the shiny part make clear how many people believe this.
